Gaillac red wines are distinguished by the use of traditional grape varieties that are little known elsewhere in France.

  • Duras: The appellation’s signature grape variety, Duras produces full-bodied, well-structured red wines with aromas of black fruit, spices, and leather. Duras wines may be aged in barrels to develop complex notes of cocoa and mocha.
  • Braucol: This hardy grape variety produces robust, full-bodied red wines with aromas of red berries, Mediterranean scrub, and black pepper. Braucol wines are perfect for pairing with grilled meats and red meat dishes.
  • Syrah: A well-known international grape variety, Syrah expresses itself in Gaillac with intense aromas of blackcurrant, violet, and smoke. Syrah red wines from Gaillac are elegant and powerful, with a long, lingering finish.

A variety of styles to suit every taste:

Gaillac reds come in a wide variety of styles, ranging from young, fruity wines to complex, elegant wines suitable for aging.

  • Young red wines: Perfect for a casual get-together, these wines are fruity and rich, with soft tannins and a fresh finish. They pair perfectly with cold cuts, cheeses, and pizza.
  • Aged red wines: Aged in oak barrels, these wines develop complex aromas of candied fruit, spices, and tobacco. They are perfect for pairing with red meat, game, and stews.

Great pairings of food and red wine:

Young, fruity red wines are perfect with appetizers, grilled meats, and pizza. Red wines meant for aging pair perfectly with red meat, game, and stews.
