Fabien Rouffiac, your winemaker in Gaillac
A return to the family home
It is no coincidence that Fabien ROUFFIAC settled in Labastide-de-Lévis as a winemaker. After studying viticulture in Toulouse and a few experiences that didn’t make him happy, he returned to the family estate.
He therefore decided to purchase 7 hectares of vineyards in 1998 and launch his own winemaking venture, guided by the advice of his grandfather Fernand and his uncle Michel.
After facing some difficulties in 2005, he was forced to work at other wineries in the Gaillac region. Building on that experience, in January 2016 he had the opportunity to take over Domaine Al Couderc and expand his vineyards by an additional 4 hectares.
His new life as a winemaker led him to produce his first four bottles in 2017. The decision to cultivate the vines using organic farming methods was quickly made.
Here’s how a man from Toulouse transformed his life: by returning to the land of his ancestors and embracing a simple life, marked by the seasons, with highlights like the grape harvest or pruning—moments that invite reflection and set the stage for the next vintage. And moments focused more on family, socializing, and a love of wine.
Environmentally friendly viticulture:
Fabien is convinced that the production of his wines must be guided by respect for the environment. He has therefore converted his entire vineyard to organic farming, prioritizing sustainable and nature-friendly cultivation practices.
His vines, situated on sun-drenched, rolling hillsides, benefit from excellent terroir. Indigenous grape varieties, such as Duras, Braucol, En del El, and Mauzac, thrive here, fully expressing their unique character and aromatic richness.
